FAQs
The initial consultation is for us to get to know each other. This approximately 20-minute call is between Piqosity’s Advisor and the student’s parent/s. The call can occur either via phone or web conference and includes discussing key points like:
- Your child’s goals and timeline
- Their academic history
- Personality and interests (to better help with tutor staffing)
- Our rates and policies
- How staffing and tutoring works
- Answering your questions
The initial consultation is no-charge, and there’s no obligation to make a purchase if you decide not to move forward.
A paid subscription to Piqosity is required to work with one of our online, private tutors. However, this access must be paid for separately unless stated otherwise.
We don’t generally advise that parents sit in on a tutoring session, because their presence usually causes the student distress (same reason why parents cannot usually tutor their own kids without frustration). Instead:
- Parents will receive written notes from the tutor after each session via e-mail
- Recordings of tutoring sessions are available upon request
All of Piqosity’s tutors are brilliant and well-supported by our management team including:
- Background checked
- Experienced
- Highly paid
- Well trained
- Regularly assessed
By definition, private tutoring is personalized to each student’s needs. However, a typical session would include:
- Check in with student to build rapport
- Discuss plan of action for the session
- Review previously assigned homework
- Review missed concepts and reinforce strategies
- Set plan for future sessions including homework
How often you should meet with your tutor depends on your goal, starting point, and the distance between those two values. Our more than two decades of experience in tutoring thousands of students reveals that:
Average students usually
- meet once a week
- 1 hour per meeting
- at least 3 months before their test
High achieving students usually
- meet 1-2 times a week for
- 1 hour per meeting
- at least 5 months before their test
You almost certainly possess and know how to use all of the technology you need to meet with Piqosity’s online, private tutors:
- Internet-connected computer or tablet
- Webcam and microphone
- Microsoft Teams (free)
- Microsoft Whiteboard (free)
Additionally, some students also find it helpful to have a tablet to use with Microsoft Whiteboard like:
- Apple iPad with Pencil
- Android tablet with stylus like Lenovo Tab P12 ($300 on Amazon)
- Drawing tablet like a Huion Inspiron H950p ($40 on Amazon)
The process to request and get started with an online private tutor from Piqosity is easy and fast:
- Schedule a free consultation
- Select your tutor and purchase hours
- Agree on what days and times you’ll meet
That’s it! New clients can usually get started with a tutor in as little as two business days.
Piqosity’s online private tutors can help in all of our standardized test prep courses for ISEE, ACT, SAT, and more. By request, tutors can also help with a student’s core academic subjects like math, science, English, and history.
Piqosity will refund unused hours on a prorated basis. You can request a refund by contacting our support team. If you need to purchase more hours after your original purchase, you may do so in a minimum of 5-hour increments.
Piqosity offers online private tutoring on a prepaid, hourly basis depending on the experience level of the tutor and the number of hours purchased in the package. Effective hourly rates start at just $80 per hour for a 30-hour package of Level 1 tutoring.
